Thurman Quote: “I finger one by one the messages of hope that awaited me at the crossroads”
Citation: “A Litany of Thanksgiving,” in Meditations of the Heart, p. 148.
Description: Thurman cultivates a meditative space of thankfulness for many compositions of hope available to us. Interpretation might be a means of touching many different writings, perspectives, experiences, and even “messages” of others. Each one may be distinct, having their own view and voice, with neither clashing with the other. Each message is its own piece of hope we are able to cast an eye over and understand hope from the vantage of another. How does our work as interpreters transform when we see hope as not just one message to be understood, but many?
