Crowds
Thurman Quote: “Memories crowd upon us as we look back over the week just passed: Many high hopes---many dreams unfulfilled; Many blunders made and, in the sharpness of our anguish, we would turn back the wheels of time and try again.”
Citation: “Memories Crowd upon Us,” in Meditations of the Heart, p. 42.
Description: This metaphor calls us to reflect on past events by invoking feelings of heaviness, as if one is stuck in a crowd with no view of escape and growing anxiety. Attempting to “redo” events which have already passed, would be in vain, as it would rob us of the opportunity to learn the lessons which said events pose before us. By reflecting on and addressing these memories, they are transformed into positive forces in our lives, embodying the ways we are shaped and molded with each step and misstep.
Reflect on: The things you wish you could do-over. How might you reimagine and shift your perspective for the task of interpretation?
