Crowns

Thurman Quote: “There were many seasoned men who were also inspiring teachers, touching us at a place in ourselves beyond all our faults and all our virtues. They placed over our heads a crown that for the rest of our lives we would be trying to grow tall enough to wear. This was a gift far greater than the imparting of information and facts.”

Description: their influences on him. He uses the image of an oversized crown that needs to be grown into. This crown represents the ambitions and goals that motivate students and people throughout their careers to continue to hone their craft. This crown image is reminiscent of a child in their parent’s shoes, gawkish and stumbling, trying to embody they're larger than life conceptions of their parents. Wearing the crown keeps them humble, ever aware of their deficiencies but ever striving to overcome them. The crowns are what we know we can be if we so long as we do not fall prey to our hubris and indolence.

Reflect on:  What are you trying to grow into? Who are the people that have given you a crown? What areas of your life do you need to grow in?
